You're a freelancer, working through your own limited company. You pay yourself a low monthly salary. The rest as dividends.

But when it's time to check your personal bank account, the number you see isn't all for you to spend.

Some is for HMRC. Tax for this year, tax for last year, and let's not forget payments on account.

Then there are your bills. Your salary might not even cover the rent, so your dividends need to stretch to keep the lights on. Sometimes for months at a time.

When it finally comes to knowing whether your emergency fund covers a broken boiler, or seeing if you can afford a week in the sun, you're left in the dark.

With Quarterday, managing your money is made so much simpler.

Input your salary, your expected dividends and your monthly outgoings.

Quarterday then estimates your income tax due and builds you a forecast for the year. One figure for your variable spends each month keeps you on track.

For anything left over, savings goals show you when you'll reach your money milestones, be that saving for a house or building up your emergency fund.

And when things change, Quarterday has you covered. A lower dividend than expected? A council tax bill increase? Let Quarterday know and see your budget update.

Features

  • Tax calculated and set aside as you earn.

Quarterday estimates your tax on salary and dividends as you earn, payments on account included. And don't worry about spending it. Quarterday protects it as part of your budget.

  • Build a plan for the year, and stick to it.

When income fluctuates, it's important to look ahead. Quarterday lets you forecast your income, outgoings and tax across the year, then helps you stick to your budget.

  • One figure keeps you on plan.

See what is available to spend each month on your variable expenses. Think food shopping, updating your wardrobe or grabbing a bite out. Stick to this number, and you'll stay on budget.

  • See your runway.

When you work for yourself, you can go through quiet spells. Know how many months of bills and outgoings you could cover if your income stopped tomorrow.

  • See where your money's headed.

Quarterday helps you see where your money is today and will be in 5 years time. Savings goals show you when you'll reach your money milestones, be it a house deposit, an emergency fund or that much needed week away.

  • No bank feeds. No transaction logging.

There's no need to connect to your bank account or log how much you spend and where. Simply update your account balances every so often and that's it. This keeps things private, secure and easy to use.

  • One change and everything updates.

Life doesn't always go to plan. If your income, bills, spending, or tax changes, your budget and forecast adjust.

You've probably got a system already.

A spreadsheet for your budget. A percentage put aside for tax. A gut feel for your savings goals.

But a spreadsheet is clunky and difficult to update. A percentage is fine until you hit a new tax bracket or tax rates change. And a gut feel isn't a plan.

When work dries up, you pay yourself more than you'd planned, or a surprise bill catches you off guard, none of these tools know what that means for you.

But Quarterday does. It estimates your tax, manages your budget, and shows how your savings grow, all in one place. And when something changes? You'll see what it means. Straight away.

Hey there! Simon here from Quarterday.

For more than 6 years, I've been freelancing as a UX Designer through my own company.

Whilst I have software to handle my company finances, I've never had something that could handle my personal finances.

Something that could estimate my tax as I pay myself, budget around inconsistent income and help me to see when I'll achieve my savings goals.

After years of trying other budgeting apps and spreadsheets, I decided to build something myself.

The result is Quarterday. And it's been a real labour of love. It's a personal finance tool built specifically for UK freelancers who work through their own company.

I've spent the past few months shaping it to suit my needs, but now it's time to open it up to others. If any of this sounds familiar, I'd love for you to give it a try and tell me what you think.

I'm a sole trader, can I use this?

Yes, although there are a few limitations.

Income, personal tax, your budget, and savings goals. They're all handled whether you're a sole trader or work through your limited company.

However, Quarterday doesn't handle VAT or your business expenses, and it can't file your self assessment for you. You'll need something else for that.

Is this for my business account or my personal account?

Personal. Quarterday stays out of your company finances and instead focuses on your personal tax, budgets and savings goals.

How much will Quarterday cost?

Founding membership costs £9 per month, including VAT.

Founding membership is limited to 25 people. The price will rise for new members after that, although I have not set the new price yet.

Is there a free plan?

No. Quarterday is funded by its subscriptions, and not through selling data, showing adverts or investment. Sticking to paid plans only means we can give more attention to a smaller audience.

How does it compare to other budgeting apps?

Quarterday is built specifically around the needs of UK freelancers, especially those working through limited companies. That means estimating income tax, budgeting for bills between dividends and giving you a view of the years ahead. Most budgeting tools don't handle this.

Does this replace my accountant?

No. Your accountant files your accounts and tax returns. Quarterday shows you what that means for your personal money.

Is this regulated or FCA authorised?

No. Quarterday doesn't give tax advice or regulated financial advice. It's a planning tool based on the numbers you enter. For advice specific to your situation, speak to an accountant or a regulated adviser.
